Bobcat Den Prompts Pet Safety Warning In East Weymouth

WEYMOUTH — Town officials issued a wildlife alert Friday after a bobcat den was identified near Hill Street and Grant Street in East Weymouth, warning residents to keep a close eye on cats and small dogs even though attacks on humans remain extremely rare.

TOWN HALL

The town's wildlife alert says the bobcat may view small domestic animals as potential prey and urges East Weymouth residents near Hill and Grant streets to take precautions with pets. No timeline was given for how long the den has been active or how long the advisory will remain in effect.

In an update to the ongoing South Weymouth Naval Air Station redevelopment, the town said it has secured an $11.5 million upfront payment from the project's master developer to fund continued water and sewer infrastructure ahead of construction, a story the town's News Flash also covered today.
