Ordinance Committee Considers Three New Regulations on Massage, Mobility, and Bodywork Establishments

WEYMOUTH — Ordinance Committee hears three proposals to regulate massage, mobility studio, and bodywork establishments through the town Licensing Board. Acting Health Director Teryn Hermenau and Sergeant Paul Donnelly reported that the Health Department and Weymouth Police Department have reduced operating establishments from nineteen to eleven since partnering in January 2025, collecting close to $18,000 in fines. The proposed ordinances add requirements including strict egress rules, prohibitions on employee residency, and mandatory CPR training.
Town Solicitor Rick McLeod referenced Senate Bill 261, pending in the state legislature, and noted the state is encouraging towns to adopt local ordinances to address trafficking and prostitution concerns. The Ordinance Committee voted unanimously to adjourn; the full Town Council will consider each ordinance individually on February 2, 2026.
