School Committee Presents Budget Scenarios With Up to $3 Million in Cuts

Weymouth schools weigh budget scenarios ranging from 2 to 5.27 percent increases with reductions up to $3 million. Superintendent Melanie Curtin and Assistant Superintendent Brian Smith presented four FY27 budget options to the Committee, with elementary principals requesting new assistant principals, applied behavior analysts, interventionists, and instructional staff. State aid for FY27 totals $221,778, just 0.25 percent of the FY26 budget.
The Committee also shifted elementary technology policy from one-to-one devices to shared carts for K-2 and classroom carts for grades 3-5; Seach and Murphy schools have piloted the change with positive feedback. The proposed budget will go to a public hearing and Committee vote in March, then to Town Council on May 12, 2026.
