Town Council approves 17 reappointments, advances MWRA water project update.

Weymouth Town Council unanimously approved 17 reappointments to municipal boards and heard a detailed update on its MWRA water supply project. Chief of Staff Ted Langill and Water Department Superintendent Braydon Marot reported that Phase I analysis, completed at a cost of $597,960.00 using a $1.2 million MassWorks Grant, identified the Braintree route to deliver MWRA water by 2031. Phase II design and permitting, valued at $8,515.00, is underway; the project will blend 5.5 million gallons per day of MWRA supply with 3.34 million gallons per day from Great Pond to meet projected demand.
Construction of the 36-inch transition main is slated to begin in June 2028. President Arthur E. Mathews requested that infrastructure testing be included in the DEP-supervised analysis to ensure aging pipes will not be damaged by blended water.
The council also referred FY27 school budget concerns to the Education Committee and scheduled a public MWRA presentation for March 25, 2026, at 6 p.m. at WHS Humanities Center.
