Weymouth Advances $65 Million Naval Air Station Land Sale
WEYMOUTH — Weymouth's redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station moved forward with a $65 million land sale between New England Development and Brookfield Properties, the town announced, alongside a Level 2 significant drought declaration that bans all nonessential outdoor water use effective immediately.

The Town of Weymouth announced that New England Development and Brookfield Properties have advanced their long-awaited plan for housing, commercial development, infrastructure and open space across Weymouth, Rockland and Abington through a $65 million land sale tied to the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station property.
Separately, the town said it has negotiated an upfront payment of $11,551,500 from the Master Developer to fund continued water and sewer infrastructure upgrades needed ahead of the SWNAS redevelopment, securing $11.5 million toward those improvements.
Weymouth has entered Level 2, Significant Drought, under state Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs guidelines. All nonessential outdoor water uses are now banned for residents and businesses, and the town said the restriction is effective immediately.
The town also corrected an error on recently mailed water and sewer bills for routes 10, 11 and 14: those bills were printed with a due date of August 7, 2026, but the correct due date is August 28, 2026.
In a wildlife advisory, the town said a known bobcat den has been identified near Hill Street and Grant Street in East Weymouth. Officials said bobcat attacks on humans are extremely rare, but the animals may view cats, small dogs and other small domestic animals as potential prey.
SCHOOLS
Weymouth Public Schools launched its 2026 Back to School Guide on August 14, an online resource covering important dates, transportation details and school schedules ahead of the new year.
The district also said kindergarten families will receive more information on Kindergarten Orientation, set for September 3, in a mailing planned for August 21.
