Weymouth CDBG Hearing Fields $380,000 in Requests Against $681,380 Pool

WEYMOUTH — February 19, 2026 — Weymouth opened its annual federal block grant process Thursday with four organizations requesting a combined $380,073 against an anticipated $681,380 CDBG allocation. DPCD administrator Jody Lehrer, a 28-year program veteran, presided over the public hearing and noted the grant has declined from roughly $1 million annually to the current range. The Weymouth Housing Authority's Michael Flaherty submitted the largest single request, $150,000 to install roll-in showers in six handicapped-accessible apartments at Pope Tower that currently have only bathtubs — a project that stalled five years ago when the project architect died. The Weymouth Senior Center requested $80,872.40 across three programs, including a shopping transportation run that will shift from Tuesday and Thursday evenings to Wednesday daytime hours after drivers declined to continue extended shifts. The Arc of the South Shore asked for $9,440 for community engagement programming for 24 adults with disabilities, and the Department of Public Works, not present at the hearing, submitted a $192,792 request for roadway and utility rehabilitation on Lillian Road and Albert Road, in a census block where 56.10 percent of residents are low-to-moderate income.
