Weymouth Land Sale Advances $65 Million SWNAS Redevelopment
A $65 million land sale between New England Development and Brookfield Properties has moved the long-awaited redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station a major step forward, town officials announced.
TOWN HALL
The Town of Weymouth confirmed that New England Development and Brookfield Properties are advancing a long-planned redevelopment covering housing, commercial development, infrastructure and open space spread across Weymouth, Rockland and Abington, tied to a $65 million land sale at the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station site. The announcement builds on the town's previously reported $11.5 million agreement with the Master Developer to fund water and sewer infrastructure ahead of construction.
Separately, the town continues to promote registration for six fall Household Hazardous Waste collections, and officials reiterated an ongoing fraud alert about emails impersonating municipal departments to solicit fake invoice payments, urging residents to verify any billing communication before paying.
SCHOOLS
Weymouth Public Schools has published its 2026 Back to School Guide, with district officials noting the online resource includes key dates, transportation details and school schedules ahead of the new year. Kindergarten families are set to receive additional orientation information on August 21, with Kindergarten Orientation itself scheduled for September 3.
The district's calendar shows a full slate of early-September milestones, including the first day for staff on September 1, a staff development day with no school on September 2, and a phased return for students beginning September 3 with early release for grades 1-6 and 9, followed by a full day of school September 4 for kindergarten, grades 7-8 and 10-12.
