Weymouth's New $33 Million Tufts Library Marks One Year of Operation

WEYMOUTH -- September 17, 2021, Weymouth's new $33 million Tufts Library took the spotlight on the debut episode of "Town Talk with Ted," a community information program hosted by Chief of Staff Ted Langell on Weymouth's community access TV. Library Director Rob McClain detailed the 50,000-square-foot building, 50 percent larger than its predecessor on Broad Street, noting it now offers 46 public computers, up from five at the old facility, along with 10 study rooms, 25 free mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, and a digital media lab; a $12 million state grant helped fund the $33 million project. Langell also reported a $1 million Seaport Economic Council grant for the West Agusset coastal restoration project, the Chapman Middle School construction reaching 50 percent completion on its $128 million build, and Fire Station 2 set to reopen October 1 after closing in 2008. The Fogg Library in Columbian Square, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is scheduled to reopen September 21 on a reduced schedule after more than a year of COVID-related closure.
