Weymouth School Committee Approves Modular Classrooms at Three Elementary Schools

WEYMOUTH — October 24, 2024 — Weymouth School Committee unanimously approved modular classrooms for three elementary schools and ratified a new administrator contract at its October 24 meeting. The committee chose Option 2 — six prefabricated classroom units, two each at Nash, Hamilton, and West Augustine schools — at a projected cost of $4 million to $4.5 million; $800,000 was already appropriated through last year's capital process, and the district will seek an additional $3.2 million to $3.7 million from the town through free cash and borrowing. The committee also approved the Weymouth Education Association Unit B collective bargaining agreement covering roughly 25 administrators through 2027, with cost-of-living adjustments of 3 percent in year one and 2.5 percent in year two, costing approximately $175,000 across those two years. WEA President Mike Murphy called it "the second one in a row" reached collaboratively, while committee member Rebecca Haugh said she was "very, very surprised at the quality of the modulars" after touring units at Academy Avenue and Murphy schools earlier in the day.
