Weymouth School Committee Sets March 27 Deadline for FY26 Budget Vote

WEYMOUTH — January 23, 2025 — Weymouth School Committee hears FY26 budget timeline and first reading of high school graduation requirement overhaul. Superintendent Melanie Curtin and Assistant Superintendent Brian Smith told the committee January 23 that a preliminary budget will be released February 13, with a public hearing March 13 and a final School Committee vote March 27, after which the budget goes to Mayor Hedlund's office. State Chapter 70 revenue growth projections are running between 2.2 and 3 percent. Assistant Principal Bri Northrup led the first reading of a rewritten Program of Studies for Weymouth High School, the major changes driven by the elimination of the MCAS graduation requirement and the capstone requirement; highlights include a new 0.25-credit personal finance graduation requirement, an increase in unified arts credits from 1.5 to 2.0, and the removal of several low-enrollment courses. A standalone School Committee vote on the class of 2025 competency determination was placed on the next meeting's agenda.
