Weymouth Schools Backs $94.9 Million Level Service Budget

Weymouth School Committee unanimously advances $94.9 million level service budget to town council, rejecting further cuts. Superintendent Melanie Curtin and Assistant Superintendent Brian Smith outlined fiscal pressures including a fiscal cliff, rising costs, limited revenue growth, and lagging state aid affecting districts statewide. During a public hearing, community members and Councilwoman Sherlock-Shangraw urged level service as the minimum responsible investment in schools, calling for unified advocacy at state and federal levels.
WEA President Mike Murphy thanked the administration for transparency. The committee also approved four district policies unanimously, an early retirement incentive, and gifts totaling $71,798.17 in monetary donations and $6,211.87 in-kind from July through December 2025.
