Weymouth schools project a $3.8 million budget shortfall for FY27 after the town imposed a one percent increase directive across all departments. Superintendent Melanie Curtin and Assistant Superintendent Brian Smith told the full School Committee that level service cannot be obtained under the constraint, forcing probable cuts to Health, Student Services, District Wide Instruction, Professional Development, Transportation, and Maintenance. The committee reviewed fee increases of ten, twenty, and thirty percent, with new proposed fees for buses, clubs, activities, theater, and youth leagues scheduled for a spring vote.
A capital measure request of $150,000 will be submitted for curriculum, and the district will operate parochial school buses in-house rather than through First Student, shifting those vehicles back to regular routes.
