Weymouth Secures $65 Million Land Sale For Naval Station Redevelopment
The Town of Weymouth announced two major financial developments tied to the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station this week, including a $65 million land sale and an $11.5 million upfront infrastructure payment secured from the site's master developer.

The Town has negotiated an upfront payment of $11,551,500 with the Master Developer to fund continued water and sewer infrastructure upgrades needed ahead of redevelopment of the former South Weymouth Naval Air Station (SWNAS), according to the town's News Flash announcement. Separately, New England Development and Brookfield Properties are advancing a long-awaited plan for housing, commercial development, infrastructure and open space across Weymouth, Rockland and Abington, backed by a $65 million land sale, the town reported.
Town officials also moved to reassure residents after some received text alerts about a boil water order affecting a neighboring community. After confirming with the Department of Public Works and water officials, the town said there is no boil water order in effect for Weymouth.
Residents should also note that fiscal year 2027 first-quarter tax payments are due by Monday, August 3, 2026, with preliminary bills mailed June 29, according to the town's announcement.
The town additionally issued a wildlife alert after a known bobcat den was identified near Hill Street and Grant Street in East Weymouth. While bobcat attacks on humans are extremely rare, the animals may view cats, small dogs and other small pets as potential prey, the town said.
SCHOOLS
Weymouth Public Schools continues to operate on its summer schedule, with office hours and contact information posted for families over the break, according to the district's newsroom. The district also published its summer reading lists, offering grade-level assignments and suggested books for students in pre-K through grade 12.
The School Committee's next meeting is scheduled for August 20 at Weymouth Town Hall.
