Weymouth Conservation Commission Issues Wetland Fill Enforcement Order on Front Street

WEYMOUTH -- June 27, 2023, Weymouth Conservation Commission continued four hearings and issued a wetland fill enforcement order at its June 27 meeting. The commission voted unanimously to require property owner Tony De Palma at 541 Front Street to hire a wetland scientist, prepare a fill-removal and restoration plan for commission approval, and complete that work within three months, with wetland consultant Chris Lucas expected on site after July 10. The commission issued orders of conditions for two Neck Street residential projects, a plunge pool at 363 Neck Street and a house addition and deck at 371 Neck Street, both near the salt marsh of the Back River, with conditions including flood-passable fencing, native plantings, and a no-mow buffer. The 550-560 Washington Street mixed-use proposal, which would demolish an existing building for a three-story commercial and residential structure and remove 21 mature trees, was continued to July 25 pending updated slope stabilization details and revised drainage calculations. A Whitman's Pond diver-assisted suction harvest pilot project, budgeted at up to $30,000, was confirmed as conforming to the site's order of conditions, with harvest work expected in August or September.
