Weymouth parents, union blast mass non-renewals at Seige Primary School

WEYMOUTH — May 11, 2023 — Weymouth parents and union leaders accused district administrators of mismanagement and dishonesty after approximately 13 staff members were non-renewed at William Seige Primary School. At the May 11 School Committee meeting, parent Allegra Maroney called the mass action "a gross mismanagement of the school administration," and WEA President Mike Murphy alleged that at a prior-day meeting with Superintendent Robert Wargo and Chair Roman Nardone, the committee was given "misinformation" about who authorized the non-renewals, saying the departing principal had told him she had no intention of letting anyone go. Murphy said the move was "without empathy" and unprecedented in nearly 30 years. Parent Stacia Connolly noted Seige is 78 percent high needs and 70 percent low income, and said she asked twice whether a safeguard was in place to prevent a recurrence — and received no answer either time. The committee took no formal action on the matter, leaving 16 positions at the school unfilled heading into the hiring season.
