Weymouth School Committee Adopts Residency Policy, Accepts High School Competency Standards

WEYMOUTH — October 23, 2025 — Weymouth School Committee adopts residency verification policy and high school competency standards. The committee voted unanimously Thursday to finalize Policy JF, School Admissions, which codifies mandatory student residency recertification, and to accept the Weymouth High School Program of Studies and Competency Determination Update, which sets minimum graduation standards including a passing grade in a one-credit U.S. history course beginning with the class of 2027. The consent agenda covered warrants totaling roughly $2.58 million. Three elementary principals reported student achievement gains — Pingree outperformed the state by 20 or more percentage points in ELA and math in grade five, Ralph Talbot's third graders exceeded state ELA averages by 26 percentage points, and Nash posted above-average math scores — while all three identified declining student sense of belonging on panorama surveys as an area of focus. Townwide Parent Council representative Ben Crosby raised roughly 15 independent parent complaints about children getting wet traveling between Wessagusset School's modular units and the main building during rainstorms. Outgoing appointed member Dana Scott delivered farewell remarks; his seat will be filled by the top vote-getter in the November 4 election.
