Weymouth School Committee seats new member, hears three elementary improvement plans

WEYMOUTH -- November 6, 2025, Weymouth School Committee hears improvement plans from three elementary principals and seats a newly elected member. The committee on November 6 unanimously approved a warrant of $903,457.38 before receiving school improvement presentations from Hamilton Principal Ashley Panetta, West Gusset's first-year principal, and William Seige Principal Nicole Daugherty, each addressing student belonging, academic achievement, and family partnerships. West Gusset was reported to be performing at pre-COVID MCAS levels; Hamilton flagged a fifth-grade ELA writing gap; and Seige, which added a third adjustment counselor, a full-time BCBA, and a registered behavior technician this year at a district cost of roughly $330,000, was nominated for a Safe and Supportive Trauma Sensitive School award through Leslie University. Superintendent Melanie Curtin highlighted an Amplify tutoring grant exceeding $400,000 that is currently serving 112 first graders and 24 second graders three times a week. The budget subcommittee was set to begin FY27 planning at a November 12 meeting, with staff noting a nearby unnamed district's budget difficulties as context for Weymouth's emphasis on transparency and early forecasting.
