Weymouth School Committee Delays Early Education Center Opening to September 2024

WEYMOUTH — November 17, 2022 — Weymouth School Committee pushes Abigail Adams Early Education Center opening to September 2024. The committee voted unanimously at its November 17 meeting to delay the center's target opening by one full year, citing supply chain lead times of up to 80 weeks for electrical and air handling systems; Assistant Superintendent Brian Smith said procurement must proceed immediately to meet even the revised date. The nine-goal package adopted for the 2022-23 school year includes a strategic planning goal with a stated special interest in special education and a facilities master plan goal flagging career and technical education expansion, following public comment from a CPAC advocate who called out a 14 percent rise in out-of-district placements, from 77 to 88 students. The committee also approved a school building usage MOA locking in a $60-per-hour base rate, supported a new Deputy Director for Event Facilities position, authorized the chair to sign an updated net-school-spending allocation agreement last executed around 2012, and voted to go paperless for televised meetings.
