Weymouth School Committee Unanimously Recognizes New Ed Tech Collective Bargaining Unit

WEYMOUTH -- December 4, 2025, Weymouth School Committee unanimously recognized a new collective bargaining unit for ed tech personnel and heard closing school improvement plan presentations from Chapman Middle School and Weymouth High School at its December 4 meeting. Member Rebecca Morrissey moved to voluntarily recognize approximately seven information technology education technicians as members of the Weymouth Educators Association, contingent on reaching a first collective bargaining agreement; the vote was unanimous. Chapman Principal Dennis Jones reported that parent council fundraising jumped from roughly $6,000 to $27,000 this year and that a new afterschool MCAS intervention targeting students who partially met or did not meet expectations will launch after the holiday break. Weymouth High Principal Karen Monahan reported 824 Advanced Placement exam sittings in 2025, with 86 percent of students scoring three or better, and a 6.1 percent reduction in chronic absenteeism over three years. Associate Principal Melissa Northup announced the school advanced to Part B of an Early College High School grant with Quincy College that could provide up to 15 transferable college credits to eligible students before graduation, backed by a $25,000 planning grant already secured.
