Weymouth School Committee sets timeline to fill vacant seat by June

WEYMOUTH — April 27, 2023 — Weymouth School Committee votes to fill vacant seat through a June appointment process. The committee unanimously approved a procedure Thursday requiring letters of interest by May 12 at 4:30 p.m., a May 25 executive session to screen applicants, and a June 15 public interview and vote. Chair Nardone also presided over acceptance of a $736,242.56 spending warrant and the 2023-24 school calendar, which dropped a July 20 meeting date. Assistant Superintendent Curtin presented first-reading handbook changes driven by a state law update to M.G.L. Chapter 71, Section 37H three-quarters, requiring progressive discipline before suspension, and new language holding student team captains and extracurricular officers to a higher conduct standard. The district's FY2024 budget, plus four capital measures covering technology, CTE equipment, utility vehicles, and high school furniture, received favorable review from the town council earlier in the week, with a more detailed hearing set for June 5.
