WEYMOUTH -- March 21, 2024, Weymouth School Committee unanimously approved an $89.1 million FY25 budget request that outpaces current town funding by $2.4 million. The committee voted to submit the level-service operating budget, a $4.8 million, or 5.78 percent, increase over FY24, to Mayor Robert Hedlund's office at its March 21 meeting. Assistant Superintendent Brian Smith reported the Abigail Adams School interior renovation has reached a total of $5.668 million after the Town Council approved an additional $928,000 appropriation, with Champions already beginning certification to offer after-school care at the site starting September 2024. The committee also accepted two technology-related policies on third reading and heard from Finalsite's Max Eisel that the district's redesigned website is in final quality-assurance testing under a three-year contract beginning July 1. Assistant Curriculum Director for Counseling Brynn Cooper reported that an embedded crisis clinician at Chapman Middle School has resolved 80 to 85 percent of this year's on-campus mental health crises without emergency room referral, and the district's wraparound center has served approximately 300 students and families since opening roughly a year ago.
