Weymouth schools hold athletic, transportation fees flat for FY22

WEYMOUTH — March 24, 2021 — Weymouth School Committee Budget Subcommittee recommends holding all athletic and transportation fees flat for fiscal year 2022. Assistant Superintendent for Finance Brian Strauss and Athletic Director Rob O'Leary told the panel Wednesday that user fees, gate admission prices, and the annual $235 pay-rider transportation fee will not increase for the coming year; pay riders will instead pay a prorated roughly $50 for the remaining 50 school days, capped at $150 per household. The subcommittee previewed a $79,822,216 FY22 budget proposal — a 4.45 percent increase — which includes just over $1 million for full-day kindergarten and $686,000 in technology leases. Strauss projected Weymouth could receive more than $6 million through the American Rescue Plan ESSER fund, calling it his "favorite news of the day," with those one-time dollars expected to cover full-day kindergarten costs over the next two-plus fiscal years. The subcommittee closed by voting to enter executive session for superintendent contract negotiations.
