Weymouth Zoning Board Unanimously Approves 270-Unit Hanover Luxury Apartment Project
WEYMOUTH — June 16, 2021 — Weymouth's zoning board unanimously approved a special permit for Hanover Company's 270-unit luxury apartment complex at 1325 Washington Street. Attorney Frank Marinelli told the Board of Zoning Appeals that the roughly $100 million project will generate more than $550,000 in net annual tax revenue for the town, along with approximately $2.1 million in initial permit and utility fees. The two four-story buildings on the 9.7-acre Route 53 site will include 20 affordable units — the highest percentage of any approved Commercial Corridor Overlay District development — and new sidewalks along the Route 53 frontage; both conditions were written into the approval. The permit is contingent on a MassDOT access permit and a Conservation Commission order of conditions, with the next conservation hearing set for June 22. In other action, the board continued cases at 38 Driftway Road and 234 River Street to its July 14 meeting after members raised unresolved design and hardship questions.
