Weymouth Tolls Bells for 9/11's 25th Anniversary
Memorial Ceremony · Meeting of September 11, 2026
Weymouth marks 9/11's 25th anniversary with bells, bagpipes and a Ground Zero steel beam. Police Chief Richard Fuller told the King Oak Hill Park crowd the nation lost 2,977 people, including 343 firefighters, 23 police officers and 37 Port Authority personnel, saying "that determination has not faded." Fire Department Captain Brad Flannery, speaking for Weymouth Firefighters Local 1616 in front of a recovered World Trade Center steel beam, cited a different responder toll — 343 firefighters, 60 police officers and eight EMS personnel — and named five Weymouth-tied victims: Mark Bavis, Jeff Coombs, Susan McKay, Robert Norton and Richard Keene. Reverend Jenny Barrett-Siegel led opening and closing prayers; Brian Kintz played Taps and Lt.
Jim Leahy played bagpipes during paired bell-tolling for Flights 11 and 175. The steel beam remained on display at King Oak Hill Park until 6 p.m.
