Weymouth Warns Residents of Fake Invoice Email Scam Impersonating Town Departments

WEYMOUTH — Town officials this week alerted residents to a wave of fraudulent emails demanding payment through fake invoices designed to look like they come from Weymouth municipal departments.

TOWN HALL

The Town of Weymouth issued a fraud alert warning that scammers are emailing fake invoices from addresses built to mimic official town names, such as Planning-Dept.TownOfWeymouthNorfolkCountyMA@usa.com. The town is urging residents not to pay any invoice they were not expecting without first confirming it with the relevant department.

Separately, the Town Clerk's office is recruiting election workers ahead of upcoming elections. Four inspectors are assigned to each voting precinct, each earning a $200 stipend for a full day of work, and all workers must attend scheduled training sessions. Residents interested can call the Town Clerk's office at 781-340-5017.

The town is also holding a public information meeting on the River Street Resiliency Improvements project, the Back River Dredge and updates to the Fort Point Road Seawall Project. Registration remains open for six fall Household Hazardous Waste collections, and riders should note that MBTA Routes 220 and 222 changed as of September 6: Route 220 no longer serves Hingham Center, Route 222 no longer serves East Weymouth, and both routes now run every 30 minutes.

SCHOOLS

Weymouth Public Schools relaunched its Backpack Program for the 2026-2027 school year, allowing families to enroll for weekend food resources. The district also held a virtual Special Education Parent Advisory Council kickoff meeting for the new school year, and posted information for families on accessing Spring 2026 MCAS results through the MCAS Family Portal.
