Zoning Board OKs Daycare Despite Thin Quorum
Board of Zoning Appeals · Meeting of September 16, 2026
Weymouth's Board of Zoning Appeals approved a special permit and parking variance for an 11,000-square-foot daycare on Main Street, voting 4-0 with only four of five members present. Chair Kemal A. Denizkurt told the applicant any vote that evening would need to be unanimous given the thin quorum.
The board approved ConServ Group's conversion of a vacant former medical building at 1085 Main St. into a preschool, cutting the required 70 parking spaces down to 51 through a variance. Traffic engineer Allison Luff said a gap study showed the driveway "operates under capacity" onto Route 18, and the board conditioned occupancy on pending Massachusetts Department of Transportation approval of the traffic plan. Clerk Brandon Diem pushed for a formal arrangement letting parents exit through an adjacent property, calling it a benefit to "the overall safety of the site." Separately, the board approved the withdrawal of a four-family home proposal from Ryder Development Corp. for a vacant lot on Station and Somerset streets.
