Weymouth zoning board continues 1085 Main Street daycare case

Weymouth zoning board delays decision on a 148-child daycare over Route 18 left-turn traffic. The Board of Zoning Appeals continued Stark Preschools' special permit and parking variance request for 1085 Main Street to September 16, unpersuaded that an unwritten "handshake" parking-sharing deal with neighboring Stockholders restaurant owner Kevin Hines resolves traffic concerns on the state-controlled roadway. Architect Jennifer Quinn said the site plan provides 51 parking spaces where the zoning bylaw requires 70.
Former building owner Bernard Smith testified that "never once in the 20 years was even half of the parking filled with cars," backing the applicant's case. The project still needs a MassDOT curb-cut permit that board members said could take up to six months, and the board separately continued an unrelated case, 0 Station Street/0 Somerset Street, to October 28.
