Weymouth Zoning Board Continues Mixed-Use Washington Street Case to June

WEYMOUTH — May 1, 2024 — Weymouth zoning board hears plans for 20-unit mixed-use building at Washington Street landing. The Board of Zoning Appeals on May 1 took up Case No. 3524, filed by Washington Landing, LLC, for a three-story building at 89-97 Washington Street that would replace a 1920s strip of storefronts — including Weymouth Books — with two ground-floor retail units, 20 two-bedroom condominiums averaging 1,200 square feet each, and 38 covered garage spaces on a roughly 26,829-square-foot parcel. Attorney Edward Fleming and architect Brian Saludie presented the project on behalf of owner Peter Chu, who said he intends to keep two to five units for himself. The board flagged outstanding issues including a fire department access concern, a discrepancy between 36 and 38 parking spaces on competing plan sets, the location of the sole accessible parking space, and the terms of a public easement for a proposed 275-foot pedestrian pathway to Western Park's ball fields. The case was continued unanimously to June 12.
