Weymouth Conservation Commission Approves Emergency Culvert Repair at Washington Street Plaza

WEYMOUTH — August 30, 2022 — Weymouth Conservation Commission approved emergency culvert stabilization at a busy Washington Street commercial plaza and took action on four other properties at its August 30 meeting. The commission voted unanimously to issue both an emergency certification and an enforcement order for the repair of a nine-foot-diameter pipe — installed in 1978 and now in progressive collapse — carrying the Mill River beneath the Shaw's and FX Messina plaza at 824 Washington Street, with work by contractor RH White to begin no later than September 14. A separate Notice of Intent for permanent pipe replacement is expected before the commission's October 25 meeting. The board also voted four to zero to issue an Order of Conditions for the mixed-use Elksy Development project at 1197 and 1215 Washington Street, which received Board of Zoning Appeals approval with conditions on August 24 and must include a three-year Japanese knotweed management program. Unanimous votes authorized a Negative 3 Determination for a home reconstruction at 94 Prospect Hill Drive and an Order of Conditions for a garage-area rebuild at 101 Shawmut Street, which will reduce impervious area by approximately 1,000 square feet. The commission also unanimously accepted a seven-acre wetland parcel off Green Street, abutting Pratt's Meadow, donated by a private landowner and already approved by the planning division.
