Weymouth Conservation Commission Delays Outfront Media Billboard Tree-Pruning Vote to February

WEYMOUTH — January 27, 2026 — Weymouth Conservation Commission extends a billboard tree-pruning permit but delays a vote on allowing new cuts at 611 Pleasant Street. The commission voted unanimously to extend order of conditions 81-1265 for Outfront Media by one year to prevent it from lapsing in February, while continuing the companion modification hearing — which would authorize pruning of approximately 30 trees, eight within the wetland buffer zone — to the February 24 meeting after neighbors from the Century Road, Kipling Road, and Price Way neighborhood filled the hearing room with objections. Ed Palmer of 93 Century Road read into the record a 2025 email from the adjacent asphalt plant's own representative attributing neighborhood odors to the earlier tree removal, calling the resulting gap "a wind tunnel." District 4 Town Councilor Adi Matthews told the commission, "I personally would not want to see any more trees cut down until the asphalt plant issue is resolved for that neighborhood." Outfront Media representative Paul Heffernan said the applicant was not there "to demand" a permit and consented to the continuance. The commission also voted unanimously to issue a final certificate of compliance for the 655 Washington Street mixed-use development after a successful three-year wetland restoration monitoring period, and issued a standard order of conditions for the 211 Main Street Sprouts and 7 Brew Coffee redevelopment conditioned on resolution of 23 outstanding DPW drainage comments.
