Weymouth Conservation Commission Approves Permits for Three Properties, Continues Contractor Yard Case

WEYMOUTH — April 28, 2025 — Weymouth Conservation Commission approved permits for three properties and continued a commercial warehouse application at its April 28 meeting. The commission issued a certificate of compliance for a 1980s-era retaining wall at 135 River Street, ordered conditions for a town water project at Zero Rear Wharf Street incorporating a Division of Marine Fisheries March 1 through June 30 time-of-year restriction and an invasive species manual removal plan, and issued a Negative 3 Determination for garage and deck work at 97 Regatta Road. At 40 Carolyn Road, new owner Rebecca Whitaker received an order of conditions for a two-car garage with a two-year monitoring requirement tied to native shrub restoration in a bordering wetland connected to the Mill River, an outstanding resource water. A 65-by-75-foot commercial warehouse application at 19 Rantoul Street was continued to May 20 pending city stormwater engineering comments. Conservation staff accepted the commission's approval of a staff-prepared Whitman's Pond annual work plan, scaled back from prior years due to the expiration of the town's consulting contract with TRC, with a new three-year contract bid expected by week's end; staff separately disclosed that drought conditions have forced the town to close the South Cove gate, blocking herring from that portion of the run, and that a $45,000 Division of Marine Fisheries grant for a Mill River study remains unspent pending contract execution with GZA.
