Weymouth Conservation Commission unanimously denies Green Street managed care facility

WEYMOUTH — August 27, 2024 — Weymouth Conservation Commission voted unanimously to deny a proposed managed care facility at zero Green Street in North Weymouth, rejecting Zarosta Homes LLC's application over wetland, flooding, and wildlife concerns. The commission closed the public hearing over the applicant's request for a continuance and denied the project after more than 100 residents packed the meeting room, with overflow crowds in the hallway. Mayor Robert Hedlund, who said the developer had previously agreed to stand down before filing without notice, told commissioners "we'll stand with you" if the proponent pursues the matter in court. Town Council President Mike Meleese, Vice President Pascal Berger, and councilors Greg Shanahan, Fred Happel, and Gary McDougall all spoke in opposition. In the same session, the commission granted a variance for a separate contested residential project at zero Northern Avenue — a staff-acknowledged precedent-setting decision — and issued orders of conditions for a Fort Point Road seawall rehabilitation and remedial contamination work at an Algonquin Gas Transmission property at 82-90 Bridge Street.
