Weymouth's New $33 Million Tufts Library Marks One Year of Operation

WEYMOUTH — September 17, 2021 — Weymouth's new $33 million Tufts Library took the spotlight on the debut episode of "Town Talk with Ted," a community information program hosted by Chief of Staff Ted Langell on Weymouth's community access TV. Library Director Rob McClain detailed the 50,000-square-foot building — 50 percent larger than its predecessor on Broad Street — noting it now offers 46 public computers, up from five at the old facility, along with 10 study rooms, 25 free mobile Wi-Fi hotspots, and a digital media lab; a $12 million state grant helped fund the $33 million project. Langell also reported a $1 million Seaport Economic Council grant for the West Agusset coastal restoration project, the Chapman Middle School construction reaching 50 percent completion on its $128 million build, and Fire Station 2 set to reopen October 1 after closing in 2008. The Fogg Library in Columbian Square, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is scheduled to reopen September 21 on a reduced schedule after more than a year of COVID-related closure.
