WEYMOUTH -- July 14, 2021, Weymouth's Board of Zoning Appeals voted 3-1 to allow a controversial home expansion on Driftway Road while reorganizing its leadership at the July 14 meeting. The board, sitting with four of its five members, approved a special permit for Frank Mullaney to demolish and rebuild 38 Driftway Road with a five-foot eastward expansion, conditioned on residential sprinklers and non-combustible siding per a request from Deputy Chief Justin Myers, with board member Kamal Dethinkert, newly elected Vice Chair, moving for approval and one unnamed member dissenting on the grounds that the design could be reworked to fit the existing footprint. The board also unanimously approved a temporary 120-foot AT&T ballast pole at 87 Wharf Street to replace coverage from the town's smokestack, set for demolition in early August, and approved a lot-line adjustment at 94 and 96 Prospect Hill Drive. A variance request for 734 Pleasant Street was taken under advisement to August 11 after abutter's attorney Jonas Jacobson appeared to contest characterizations of his client in a pending Land Court boundary dispute over as much as 8,000 square feet of land. Jonathan Moriarty was elected Clerk and Richard McLeod was re-elected Chair.
