Weymouth Zoning Board Continues Washington Street Mixed-Use Hearing to April 26

WEYMOUTH — April 5, 2023 — Weymouth's zoning board pressed developers of a proposed 28-unit mixed-use building at 550-560 Washington Street, continuing the hearing to April 26 after flagging unresolved questions on water and sewer capacity, parking, pedestrian access, and building materials. Attorney and property owner Ray Jennings, appearing with site engineer Eric Shoemaker of McKenzie Engineering Group and architect Pat Fisher, presented revised plans that have reduced the unit count from 36 in the original application to 28, with three affordable units and a 3,000-square-foot restaurant on a 1.66-acre parcel. A board member identified only as Bob told the applicant that a formal sign-off from the town water department is required for all projects, and the board directed the team to also obtain comparable restaurant water and sewer usage figures and fire department approval of access turning radii before the next session. A former operator of the Union Brewhouse, Tom Powers, appeared during public comment to allege a contract dispute with Jennings; the board chair referred the matter to town counsel and noted it falls outside the board's purview. In a separate case, the board unanimously approved a special permit for a rear dormer addition at 20 Cliff Street.
