Council OKs $90,700 for Historic Church Roof
Town Council · Meeting of September 21, 2026
Weymouth Council approves $90,700 CPA grant for historic church roof, confirms three appointees. The council voted 10-0 to fund roof repairs at the 111-year-old Church of the Holy Nativity from the town's Historic Resource Fund Balance Account, which had $311,663 on hand. Parishioner Malcolm Gurney said the project will "protect this historically significant asset in South Weymouth." Councilors also confirmed Brian Chase to the Historical Commission, Ann Harrington to the Board of Library Trustees, and Michael Rowland, formerly of Quincy, as Director of Municipal Finance, all by 10-0 votes.
A separate 10-0 vote waived the town's right of first refusal on an affordable-housing property at 52 Somerset Street so its nonprofit owner could refinance, with the solicitor confirming the deed's affordability restriction stays intact. The council also set early voting hours and called the November 3 state election.
