Weymouth Conservation Commission Denies Building Permit for Northern Ave. Lot
WEYMOUTH — September 24, 2024 — Weymouth Conservation Commission formally denied a building permit for a proposed home at zero Northern Ave., citing wetlands buffer encroachment and stormwater failures. Acting Conservation Administrator Bob Longo — filling in for Andrew Halton, on paternity leave — told the commission the denial was needed to create a clear record after the board had rejected a variance at its prior meeting but had not yet issued a formal order of conditions. The applicant, Ken Ryder, is weighing an appeal; his proposed house footprint fell four-fifths or more within the protected 25-foot wetlands buffer. The commission also unanimously approved a negative-3 wetlands determination for homeowner Wendy Hardyman at 22 Lester Lane, whose contractor completed a deck reconstruction without first obtaining a building permit; Conservation Administrator Halton had visited the site and found no environmental damage. Hearings on the Old Swamp River Dam removal and a development proposal at 114 Bridge Street — where the town is exploring whether to purchase the lot for open space — were both continued to October 29.
