Weymouth Conservation Commission Grants 60 Days to Settle Four-Year Wetlands Case

WEYMOUTH — May 30, 2023 — Weymouth Conservation Commission rejects a two-year delay and gives a 60-day settlement window in a four-year wetlands enforcement case. The commission voted unanimously Tuesday to deny property owner Mr. Campo's request to extend an enforcement order until August 2024, instead directing Town Solicitor Rick McLeod to draft a formal settlement agreement within 60 days tied to prompt removal of recently placed fill at 475 Columbian Street — estimated at approximately $83,000. McLeod outlined a framework under which the commission could waive cleanup of older historical fill, provided a settlement is recorded at the Registry of Deeds and cleanup of the recent fill is completed within months; failure to comply would reinstate the full remediation obligation. The board also unanimously approved an order of conditions for eight test borings in the Idlewell neighborhood as part of a sewer upsizing project, over a neighbor's objection that the access route could become permanent.
