Weymouth Council Approves $370,000 for Osprey Overlook Park, Rejects Registrar Pick
WEYMOUTH — September 12, 2022 — Weymouth Town Council approves $370,000 for Osprey Overlook Park and rejects a Board of Registrars appointment 10-1. The council unanimously appropriated $370,000 from Community Preservation Act funds Monday for the completion of Osprey Overlook Park on the former transfer station site, with town staff member John McCloud saying the demolition stack was expected to come down within days and final improvements including parking, a picnic area, and a walking trail would follow by spring 2023. The council also unanimously approved a $12,000 reserve fund transfer for library overtime, prompted by five summer staff resignations that had forced partial library closures, and a $30,000 transfer for accounting services following the town accountant's retirement. In the most contested action of the evening, the council voted 10-1 to reject Mayor Robert Hedlund's appointment of Linda Rory to the Board of Registrars, sustaining a unanimous 5-0 unfavorable recommendation from the Budget Management Committee, after Rory arrived with an attorney whom Council President Matthews said was the first legal counsel ever to appear on behalf of an applicant before a routine committee appointment in his 21 years on the council.
