Weymouth Council Approves $562,107 to Restore Emory Estate Exterior

WEYMOUTH — November 12, 2024 — Weymouth Town Council unanimously approved $562,107.50 in Community Preservation Act funds Tuesday to restore the exterior of the historic Emory Estate. The appropriation, presented by Leilani Delpe from the Mayor's Office and Director of Asset Management John McLeod, combines with a $200,000 Massachusetts Office of Travel and Tourism grant and $12,000 in town in-house consulting to cover the full $774,000 project, which includes roof replacement, asbestos and lead paint abatement, window restoration, and exterior repainting. Budget Management Committee Chair Greg Shanahan confirmed the historic resources CPA subaccount held $575,638.16 at the time of the request, just barely covering the draw. The council also referred a $2.95 million borrowing request for six permanent modular classrooms at three Weymouth elementary schools to the Budget Management Committee, and opened a public hearing on a proposed parking permit system for Columbian Square merchants and employees aimed at pushing South Shore Hospital workers out of the municipal lot, which the town has received $11 million in improvements.
