Weymouth Council Approves $75,500 in Legal and Historic Preservation Funds

WEYMOUTH — October 3, 2022 — Weymouth Town Council unanimously approved $75,500 in legal and historic preservation spending at its October 3 session. The council voted 9-0 on all three measures, with Councilors Kiley and Belmonte absent. Budget Management Committee Chair and Vice President James Malise presented a $50,000 reserve fund transfer to the town solicitor's special counsel account to cover legal services costs, alongside two Community Preservation Act appropriations: $19,000 to restore two collapsed 19th-century crypts at the Village Cemetery and $6,500 to conserve two original stained glass windows at the Fogg Library. Village Cemetery Association President Eric Remsen told the council his group would contribute an additional $1,641 toward the crypt project, describing the goal as making it "look like it never fell apart." System Library Director Heather Blackman noted the Fogg windows, depicting printers' marks dating to the 14th century, are about 125 years old. The town's CPA historic resource fund carried a balance of $228,713.47 before the appropriations.
