Weymouth Council Refers Building Moratorium Petition to Ordinance Committee, Planning Board

WEYMOUTH — October 17, 2022 — Weymouth Town Council unanimously referred a citizens petition proposing a building moratorium to the Ordinance Committee and the Planning Board at its October 17 meeting. The 10-person petition, Measure 22-131, received by the Town Clerk on October 12, was sent to both bodies because any resulting ordinance would require a joint public hearing; no hearing date has been set. Councilor Belmarsh and Councilor McDougal both tied the petition to unresolved water supply data questions that surfaced at a recent Public Works subcommittee meeting, with McDougal calling the available data "a little ominous." The council also approved Crown Castle's petition to run underground conduit and fiber optic cable to the new Boston Children's Hospital building at 200 Libby Parkway, and took no action on a National Grid gas main request for Massapog Street after Town Solicitor McClubrick advised the street is a private way outside town jurisdiction. CFO James Mallory presented two mayoral referrals — a $9,175 reserve fund transfer for an unpaid Stone Consulting invoice and the appointment of Mary Stokel to the Board of Registrars — both sent to the Budget Management Committee.
