Weymouth Council Sets FY2023 Tax Shift, Accepts Cunningham Bequest and Land Gift

WEYMOUTH — November 21, 2022 — Weymouth Town Council unanimously set the fiscal year 2023 commercial tax shift at 1.46, limiting the average residential tax increase to $134. The council voted 10 to 0 Monday on Measure 22-132, accepting the Board of Assessors' recommendation presented by Chair Paul Haley, who said a uniform rate would have imposed a $575 increase on the average single-family home assessed at $467,000. The town's maximum allowable levy stands at $130,592,766, boosted by $1.8 million in new growth and a debt exclusion for the Chapman School project. The council also accepted approximately $65,000 in charitable bequests from the estate of Sandra Cunningham — split among the Tufts Library, elder services, and the town scholarship fund — and took title to a 0.035-acre parcel at Washington and Broad streets donated by Union Towers for use as a sitting park.
