Weymouth Council Unanimously Approves Electricity Aggregation Program for Residents

WEYMOUTH — March 6, 2023 — Weymouth Town Council unanimously approved a community electricity aggregation program Monday and voted to fund $400,000 in playground equipment and a gazebo for the long-delayed Beals Park renovation in North Weymouth. The 11-0 vote on Measure 23-004 authorizes the town to work with Good Energy, a firm with 65 Massachusetts municipal clients, to develop an opt-out electricity supply contract that would automatically enroll National Grid residential and small-business customers while preserving their right to leave at any time without penalty. Separately, the council appropriated $400,000 in Community Preservation Act funds for Beals Park playground equipment and gazebo under Measure 23-009, also 11-0, while continuing a public hearing on the park's main construction contract to March 20 — bids on that work came in at $3,257,119 against a $2.6 million estimate, pushing the total project budget to $3.4 million after an additional $800,000 CPA request the administration plans to bring back. The council also voted unanimously for no action on a citizens' building moratorium petition tied to Weymouth's water supply, and voted 11-0 against the appointment of Joseph Fleming to the Board of Registrars after the town solicitor confirmed he had issued Fleming a cease-and-desist order in 2022 for distributing an unauthorized voter training manual bearing the town seal.
