Weymouth Town Council approves $201.4 million FY2024 budget unanimously

WEYMOUTH — June 20, 2023 — Weymouth Town Council unanimously approved a $201.4 million operating budget for fiscal year 2024, a 3.4 percent increase over the prior year. Vice President Malise led the council through more than 28 departmental line items plus enterprise funds, capital transfers, and revolving accounts, all passing 9-0 with Councilors Abbott and Belmarsh absent. The school department received the largest single appropriation at $84,273,835, followed by pensions and benefits at $41,263,684, and the police department at $15,809,700. The council also approved a $2,540,000 bond for an MWRA sewer infiltration and inflow project and accepted the FY2024-2028 Capital Improvement Plan. Free cash transfers included $750,000 each for a Lovell Field pedestrian bridge, a police records management system replacement, and school technology upgrades. Paul Cardinal was appointed to the Board of Registrars, and a Union Point rezoning request for a 3.4-acre gymnasium site at the former Naval Air Station South Weymouth was referred to the ordinance committee and planning board for public hearings.
