Weymouth Town Council Approves FY2024 Tax Shift, Sets New Property Rates

WEYMOUTH — November 20, 2023 — Weymouth Town Council unanimously approved the fiscal year 2024 property tax classification Monday, setting a commercial and industrial shift factor of 1.47. The vote, 10-0, followed a presentation by Board of Assessors Chairman Paul Haley and Principal Assessor Tricia O'Kane, who reported the town's maximum allowable levy at $136,399,000, boosted by $2.2 million in new growth revenue. The residential rate drops slightly to $10.27 per thousand from $10.45, while the commercial rate rises from $16.50 to $16.60; Haley said the average homeowner will see "around a 2 to 5 percent increase." The council also authorized a five-year Verizon Wireless lease for space in the lower Town Hall cupola at 75 Middle Street, confirmed appointments to the Historical Commission and Cultural Council, and referred a Union Point resident's proposal for a formal quiet hours ordinance to the Ordinance Committee.
