Weymouth Warns Residents of Fake Invoice Email Scam
WEYMOUTH — The Town of Weymouth is warning residents about fraudulent emails soliciting payment through a fake invoice, the latest attempt by scammers to target municipal customers. The bogus messages are sent from addresses built to look official, including one posing as Planning-Dept.TownOfWeymouthNorfolkCountyMA@usa.com.
TOWN HALL Town officials are urging residents to be on alert after fake invoice emails impersonating the Planning Department began circulating this week. The messages use sender addresses designed to mimic legitimate municipal accounts, and the town is advising residents not to click links or submit payment information in response to unsolicited invoice emails. Residents who receive a suspicious message are encouraged to verify any request for money directly with Town Hall before responding.
