Weymouth Council Advances $336,000 Federal Traffic Safety Grant, Seven Reappointments

WEYMOUTH -- February 20, 2024, Weymouth Town Council heard a $336,000 federal traffic safety grant overview and confirmed two board appointments at its February 20 meeting. Town Traffic Engineer Owen MacDonald and consultant Bill Scully of Kimley-Horn Incorporated presented the Safe Streets and Roads for All action planning grant, awarded by the Federal Highway Administration in early 2023, noting that between 2018 and 2023 Weymouth recorded more than 6,400 crashes, 20 fatalities, and over 400 injury crashes across its 150 miles of roads. The 10-month planning process could qualify the town to apply for up to $25 million in federal implementation funds as early as early 2025. The council unanimously approved Charles McCrossin to a three-year Conservation Commission term and Connor Foley to a five-year Redevelopment Authority term, and referred a $164,625 free cash transfer for improvements to 111 Middle Street and a $50,000 Emory Estate revolving account to the Budget Management Committee for hearing.
