Weymouth Council Unanimously Confirms Harris to Commission on Disabilities

WEYMOUTH — October 21, 2024 — Weymouth Town Council unanimously confirmed Betsy Harris to the Commission on Disabilities and referred two new measures to committee at its October 21 meeting. Harris, of 34 Hilton Drive, was approved for a three-year term expiring June 30, 2027, filling the seat of former member Jonathan Blaisdell after Budget Management Committee Chair Greg Shanahan reported the appointment had received unanimous favorable action in committee the same evening. The council also referred Measure 24-110, a proposal to allow the Weymouth Police Department to issue daytime parking permits for the Columbian Square Municipal Parking Lot beyond posted time limits, to the Ordinance Committee for a required public hearing, and sent Measure 24-111 — the proposed appointment of Kristen Essin to the Weymouth Housing Authority for a five-year term through June 30, 2029 — to the Budget Management Committee. The meeting opened with a formal tribute to former Mayor Susan Kay, Weymouth's first female mayor, who died before the session; members observed a moment of silence in her honor.
